Indigo joins World Land Trust’s Carbon Balanced Programme
Environmental responsibility has always been integral to the way Indigo works, from ensuring minimal waste and energy usage in the office, to specifying products in our projects that minimise the environmental impact of our schemes. However, with increased fears about the scale of the climate change crisis, we decided that as a business we wanted to do more.
With the help of World Land Trust (WLT) we have offset our carbon emissions for our last financial year ending 31st March 2022. Using their carbon calculator to work out our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions during that period we then made a contribution to their Carbon Balanced Programme to offset the equivalent amount. Becoming a carbon neutral business involves offsetting Scope 1 and 2 emissions which include those under your direct control and purchased energy, however, WLT encourages companies to go beyond that if they can and also include their Scope 3 emissions which include indirect emissions that occur in the organisation’s supply chain.
As supporters of WLT we’re investing in projects around the world in highly biodiverse areas that are under threat from human activity. In doing so we support WLT’s local partners who restore degraded forests, plant new trees, and protect the well established primary forests frequently referred to as “carbon sinks”. It’s something we’re very proud of, and if you are interested in finding out more about these projects you can read about the work being done by WLT in Guatemala, Mexico, Vietnam and Ecuador.
By offsetting its carbon emissions through the WLT Carbon Balanced Programme, Indigo is helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. The company is also supporting the protection of endangered habitats and species around the world, helping to ensure that these habitats and species are preserved for future generations.
