Planning approval in North Wessex Downs AONB

Fantastic news to brighten up a January day; planning approval has been granted for a dynamic new contemporary dwelling designed by OB Architecture on a stunning site within the North Wessex Downs AONB in Wiltshire.

Our involvement has been strategic and holistic with the landscape assessment team’s input feeding into the site layout and levels design, the production of a detailed landscape masterplan and presentation of the overall proposals to the Design Review panel, prior to application submission.

Working again with Atlas Planning and collaborating intensively with the architects, we spent time with the client to fully appreciate their specific requirements for living on the site and discussing how to integrate the exciting architectural design into the sensitive landscape of the AONB.

The resulting design includes a careful balance of ground modelling and planting to anchor the building into the landscape, set within a wider framework of native tree and hedge planting to enhance and contribute to the character of the protected landscape. The proposals also include a natural wildlife pond and more formal ponds closer to the house, which are interconnected with green roofs as part of a coordinated rainwater harvesting and sustainable drainage system.

Proposed wildflower meadow and species rich lawn areas along with other native and ornamental planting will contribute further to the scheme, and provide significantly increased habitat diversity and enhanced connectivity for wildlife.
