New Milton Crematorium

New Forest

Client:

Westerleigh Group

Location:

New Milton, New Forest

Working within the Green Belt this project initially involved the preparation of a Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment alongside the development of a landscape strategy and masterplan in support of an outline planning application in a highly sensitive location on the south coast.

Working closely with Design Engine Architects and Jackson Planning, the project successfully received planning in June 2016 and we have since been working with Stride Treglown and the Westerleigh Group on the detailed aspects of the scheme.

Key to the success of this project has been the landscape concept, which has been developed to respond sensitively to the site’s rural edge location and its existing Green Infrastructure framework of mature woodland, hedgerows and pasture. The vision was to create a scheme that would have an elegant simplicity with some formality, including a Garden of Remembrance, but also generous informal parkland designed to offer spaces for quiet reflection.

Construction is planned to start on site early in 2019, with the facility due to become operational in mid-2020.
